Top footballers and the cars they drive

Big paychecks mean football’s best can afford some expensive cars. ZujuGP checks out some of the sweetest footballer rides around.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Gabon’s captain is well known for his flashy lifestyle off the pitch, so much so that he had the press on his back during his time in Germany with Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga’s loss was Arsenal’s gain though as the striker has since become a vital member of the team at the Emirates.

While it might not be for everyone, Aubameyang’s love of chrome-wrapped cars has certainly caught the eye, with the striker often showing off his love for cars on social media.

Chrome-wrapped or not, Aubameyang’s collection of luxury vehicles include several Lamborghinis (an Aventador, a Huracan Spyder and an Urus), as well as other expensive models including but not limited to a Ferrari LaFerrari, a Bentley Bentayga, a Porsche Panamera Turbo Techart and a Ferrari 812 Superfast.

Lionel Messi

Maybe it should come as no surprise that one of the world’s higher paid footballers would own one of the world’s most expensive cars ever sold at auction. Messi made the headlines in 2016 by reportedly splashing out a cool €32 million ($35.7 million) for a 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti, a then-world record.

The car was only one of four produced by the Italian manufacturer, and won the 1958 Cuban Grand Prix while driven by Sir Stirling Moss.

However, Messi doesn’t like to kiss and tell when it comes to his four-wheeled acquisitions though, cheekily posting an instagram photo of his “new car” shortly after.

Even if he did not buy the Ferrari 335s at auction, Messi still has a car collection to rival any football superstar. The Argentinian forward is said to have many other expensive toys in his garage, including a Pagani Zonda Tricolore, a Ferrari F430 Spyder, Maserati Gran Turismo MC Stradale as well as a Pagani Zonda Roadster.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The most famous footballer in Sweden has a larger than life personality, so it should come as no surprise that he is often seen driving some pretty sweet rides on its roads.

Zlatan’s love for high-speed cars is no secret and his car collection seems to be growing even as he moves from league to league entertaining fans of his various clubs. His collection is said to include the Ferrari Monza SP2 he is seen driving above, as well as a Ferrari LaFerrari, a Ferrari Enzo and a Porsche 918 Spyder.

Karim Benzema

Real Madrid’s veteran forward has been returned to the spotlight this year after his recall to the France squad for the European Championships but he has kept busy during his international exile, banging in the goals for Los Blancos.

Benzema’s car collection has grown in the meantime too with his latest addition a £2.5 million ($3.6 million) Bugatti Chiron. The Frenchman’s love for Bugattis is well known, and he even once showed off a Bugatti Veyron-themed birthday cake for his 30th birthday celebrations

Besides the two Bugattis, Benzema also reportedly owns a limited edition Mercedez-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss, a Rolls Royce Wraith, a Ferrari 458 Spyder as well as the same trio of Lamborghinis that Aubameyang owns in several striking colours: a yellow Urus, red Aventador and black Huracan Spyder.

Not a bad collection all in all!

Mauro Icardi

Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi is often in the media spotlight for various reasons, be it football, his car collection or his marriage to a former teammate’s wife. It is no surprise then that the three things appear often on his social media feed.

Icardi’s car collection includes a Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, a Rolls-Royce Ghost and a Hummer H2.

Son Heung-min

Tottenham fans are understandably in love with the skilful Korean forward, but it might come as a surprise to some that the unassuming 28-year-old has a growing collection of luxury cars.

Son has rocked up to training in a rare Ferrari LaFerrari (only 499 ever made), reportedly black because he was told that getting in traditional red would not be a good idea due to the club’s bitter rivalry with Arsenal!

Other cars the South Korean has been seen driving include a Maserati Levante and a Bentley Continental GT.

Mario Balotelli

The controversial forward was famous for several things while he was in Manchester – the “Why Always Me” T-shirt, the training ground spats and also the eye-catching camouflage-wrap Bentley Continental GT he used to turn up in on training days.

While the Bentley’s camouflage probably didn’t do a very good job of keeping Balotelli out of the media spotlight, his other sweet rides include a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, a Ferrari 458 Spider, a Maserati GranTurismo and an Audi R8 V10.

Samuel Eto’o

Once considered one of the best strikers in the world, former Barcelona forward Eto’o is known for owning one hell of a car collection.

The luxury car connoisseur is not shy about spending his huge paychecks on expensive rides, having shown off the likes of the Aston Martin One-77, the Aston Martin V12 Zagato and the Porsche Gambella Mirage before.

Other cars in the Cameroonian’s collection include the Bugatti Veyron seen above, a Maybach Xenatec, a Ferrari 599 Fiorano and a Ferrari 458 Italia Mansory Siracusa.

David Beckham

The last football personality on our list needs little introduction. Beckham has global name recognition even outside football and he continues to make headlines as the current owner of Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami.

While Becks has been known to get around town on a variety of motorbikes, he is also a huge fan of luxury and classic cars.

The cars he has owned at one point or another include a Bentley Bentayga, a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead, a Lamborghini Gallardo, a McLaren 720S and even a super classic 1987 Aston Martin V8 Vantage X-Pack Volante.
