zujuGP YoungWarrior x Valencia CF: Helping Singapore Unleash the Roar

The ActiveSG Cup returns with an extra twist in 2022, with Valencia CF representatives travelling down to Singapore in December to watch and scout local talent at the football finals.

The zujuGP YoungWarrior Scholarship is a youth development scholarship program for young football talents in Asia. This year, zujuGP will be partnering up with SportSG in December to help support Singapore’s Unleash the Roar movement.

Valencia CF’s representatives will be on hand to help select the inaugural zujuGP YoungWarrior Scholarship winners.

“It is a good opportunity for Valencia CF to see first-hand, in a context like the ActiveSG Cup, how players are developing in Asia,” says Ramon Mompó, Technical Manager, VCF Academy Programs.

“Valencia CF can help to develop young players in Asia at events like these, where Valencia CF staff will be training directly with the players and local coaches we work with can understand what Valencia CF’s vision is.”

A once-in-a-lifetime experience

One outstanding individual each from the U10, U12 and U14 categories at this edition of the ActiveSG Cup will travel to Spain for a once-in-a-lifetime trip in 2023. These three deserving zujuGP YoungWarrior Scholarship recipients will earn a chance to strut their stuff at Valencia CF Summer Camp next year.

“We will take into account aspects that an elite player must have with us,” says Mompó.

“For example, a player needs to be able to set an example for others (showing a willingness to train and improve and be responsible in their academic studies); be fighters (competitive and self-demanding); are intelligent (with good reading of play and possessing decision-making skills); technically proficient (with high technical ability); and energetic (they are active on and off the ball).”

Places at the Valencia CF Summer Camp are highly sought after and hard to come by, with registrations for each edition filled long before each year’s camp starts.

“The Valencia CF Summer Camp is a multicultural experience because we have players from 20 nationalities who enjoy our facilities and our city,” says Mompó.

“The Summer Camp has been running for 20 years and is the right place to improve and have fun through football. We will have coaches from the VCF Academy specialised in training with our methodology there.”

Valencia’s academy has long been considered one of the best in Europe, with CIES Football Observatory’s 2022 report listing 25 youth products playing in Europe’s top five leagues (England, Germany, France, Italy and Spain). This places the academy sixth on the list, and among other big clubs like Manchester United, PSG and Sporting CP.

Hallowed turf

The Valencia CF Summer Camp will be held at the Ciutat Esportiva de Paterna, a state-of-the-art training complex that is home to Valencia CF. zujuGP YoungWarrior Scholarship winners will be training at the very same facilities that the first team and all academy teams train on.

Valencia luminaries like World Cup winner David Silva, La Liga winning captain David Albelda and current USMNT wonderkid Yunus Musah are just some of the names who have stepped on the hallowed turf in Paterna.

The ActiveSG Cup finals will be held on December 10 at Jurong East Stadium, Singapore.
